In the midst of pandemic, Lexington pauses to remember 19th anniversary of 9/11

Ceremonies honoring those killed 19 years ago during terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, looked different this year.

Flags were lowered to half-staff in Lexington’s Phoenix Park Friday as members of the Lexington fire and police honor guards placed a wreath in honor of those who died on Sept. 11. This year’s coronavirus-altered ceremony was broadcast via Facebook to keep the number of people attending in person to a minimum, fire and police officials said.

A moment of silent reflection followed.
