Victim dies after Lexington apartment fire quickly put out

One person is dead after an apartment fire in Lexington Sunday morning, according to the Fayette County coroner’s office.

The fire started at an apartment in the 3400 block of Lansdowne Drive between Tates Creek and Nicholasville roads, Battalion Chief Jordan Saas said. Crews responded around 7:30 a.m. and found a small fire, which was quickly extinguished, Saas said, but one victim had to be transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

That victim, 42-year-old Robert L. Woodard, died at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, according to the coroner’s office. He was pronounced dead just after 8 a.m.

The cause and manner of death are “pending investigation,” the coroner’s office said.

A fire investigator responded to the scene, Saas said. The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation, he said.
