Driver collides with five parked cars on Maxwell Street near UK’s campus, police say

A woman driving on Maxwell Street struck or sideswiped five vehicles parked on the side of the road early Tuesday, Lexington police confirmed

The accident occurred near UK’s campus between Hagerman Court and Stone Avenue, according to the Lexington Traffic Management Center. Police shut down the road for approximately 30 minutes to clean up the damage.

Lt. Daniel Truex said the driver told officers on scene she thought a parked car was backing up, which caused some confusion and ultimately the collisions.

The damage to the parked cars varied, with some having to be towed away, Truex said. The driver suffered minor injuries but wasn’t taken to the hospital.

However, the driver is likely to be cited in the accident, Truex said.
