Sun kept driver from seeing red light in Lexington crash. Coroner was at scene.
The Fayette County coroner had to respond to a serious car accident on Man o’ War Boulevard near the Summit Friday morning, according to police.
The wreck happened at 8:39 a.m. in the intersection of Man o’ War and Victoria Way, which is near Pax Christi Catholic Church, according to Lt. Chris Van Brackel. A Dodge pickup truck was traveling on the outer loop of Man o’ War when it ran a red light and struck a passenger car in the intersection, Van Brackel said.
According to police, the driver of the truck, a male, hit the driver’s side of the passenger car. The pickup truck driver couldn’t see the red light due to the glare of the sun, Van Brackel said.
The pickup truck driver was not injured but the driver of the passenger car, also a male, suffered injuries, according to police. Van Brackel confirmed the coroner was at the accident scene but couldn’t say if the driver’s injuries were fatal.
The coroner didn’t immediately respond to questions.
Man o’ War was shut down for multiple hours in both directions while officials cleared the scene, per the Lexington Traffic Management Center.
