Coroner releases name of victim in Lexington crash

One man is dead after a Corvette he was driving ran off the road and through a guardrail in Lexington Sunday morning, according to Lexington police.

The Fayette County Coroner identified the driver as Carter Himes, 19. He was pronounced dead at 6:56 a.m. from blunt force injuries.

The victim was the only person involved in the single-car crash, Lexington police Sgt. Daniel Fleischer said. The crash happened at the intersection of Georgetown and Berea roads. It was called into police just after 6 a.m., Fleischer said. Himes died on the scene, Fleischer said.

“It’s hard to say at this point” if speed was a factor in the crash, Fleischer said Sunday. He said the Lexington Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit was investigating.
