Fire near Lexington Christian Academy damages two homes

The Lexington Fire Department battled a blaze in the 3200 block of Keithshire Way near the Lexington Christian Academy and Fayette Mall Wednesday, according to Battalion Chief Jordan Saas.

No one was injured when the fire damaged two homes, Saas said.

Reports of a possible structure fire were received about 5:15 p.m., and when firefighters arrived, they found a fire on the outside of a two-story house. Crews quickly extinguished the fire before it spread to the interior but not before it could damage the other residence, according to Saas.

A resident filled a trash can with hot ashes from a fire pit and the trash can caught on fire, WTVQ reported. The fire spread to the vinyl siding on the two homes, which are in close proximity to each other.

The occupants of both houses were temporarily displaced after the electric meters were removed because the fire damaged electrical wiring in both buildings, according to Saas.
