Lexington city vehicle hits, injures pedestrian

A woman was injured Thursday morning after she was struck by a city vehicle on Winchester Road, according to Lexington police.

The accident happened at approximately 8:25 a.m. at the intersection of Winchester Road and East Loudon Avenue, Lt. Daniel Truex said. The preliminary investigation revealed that the woman was crossing the street illegally outside of a crosswalk when the vehicle hit her while making a left turn.

WKYT, the Herald-Leader’s news partner, reported that the vehicle involved was a garbage truck.

The woman was taken to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Truex. The investigation is ongoing.

The accident caused major traffic delays in the area for more than an hour while police investigated, according to the Lexington Traffic Management Center.
