Name of driver killed in Lexington two-vehicle crash on Leestown Road released
One person was killed Friday in a two-vehicle wreck on Leestown Road, according to Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn.
David Fish, 28, of Lexington, died from traumatic injuries to the head and torso, according to Ginn. Fish was pronounced dead on the scene at 9:47 a.m.
The accident, which occurred near the Scott-Fayette county line, was reported shortly after 9 a.m. Friday. According to Ginn, an SUV driving outbound crossed the center line and hit head-on a truck towing a large piece of machinery.
Fish was driving the SUV. The driver of the truck did not have serious injuries.
“It’s by the grace of God that he’s here,” Ginn said about the truck’s driver. “He tried to avoid the collision. His airbags deployed and he’s been checked out by our Lexington firefighters. He’s up walking around, talking, conversing with people.”
Police don’t know why Fish crossed the center line, according to Ginn. The police collision reconstruction unit was investigating.
The road was shut down for about five hours for the investigation before reopening about 3 p.m., according to the Lexington Traffic Management Center. Traffic heading outbound on Leestown was diverted to Yarnallton Pike while inbound traffic was being diverted to U.S. 62 or Paynes Depot Road.
