Updated: Fire causes significant damage to duplex near Saron Drive in Lexington

A fire heavily damaged a duplex on Fiddler Creek Way in Lexington Tuesday.

The fire was first reported at approximately 9:30 a.m., and when crews arrived, they encountered “heavy fire engulfing the first floor,” according to District Maj. Mark Samuelson.

No one was inside the duplex at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported, Samuelson said. The cause of the fire was being investigated but firefighters believe it started inside the structure.

The left side of the duplex, where the fire originated, suffered extensive damage. A firewall partially protected the other half of the building on the right, but it had some smoke damage.

“Some of the damage was caused by us when we had to go through and open up, looking for hidden fire to make sure there’s no extension into the adjacent unit,” Samuelson said.
