Lexington police officer hit by sliding vehicle while assisting with accident

A Lexington police officer was hit by a sliding car while assisting another accident Thursday, according to police.

The wreck took place on Jacks Creek Pike near Old Richmond Road, police said. An officer was in the area helping with an accident when he was hit by another vehicle that was not able to stop in time.

The officer took himself to the hospital in his own cruiser, police said. He has non-life-threatening injuries.

Trooper Corey King with Kentucky State Police Post 11 reported Friday morning that a trooper in Henderson County suffered a concussion after getting hit by a car that lost control on ice. Two troopers were hit within a span of five hours, per King.

As of 5:15 p.m. Thursday, Lexington police had responded to 102 non-injury collisions and 18 injury collisions. None of the injury collisions were life-threatening.
