The city of Lexington canceled the annual Martin Luther King Freedom March scheduled for Monday morning due to the snow storm that hit the area Sunday.

According to a release from the city:

“The committee acted out of an abundance of caution. Roads are slick and freezing over. Organizers were not only concerned about the route of the march, but also about the condition of the roads participants would use to get to and from the event.”

The city said the annual Commemorative Program will be available virtually on YouTube. For more information go to www.uky.edu/mlk .

Sen. Raphael Warnock of Georgia was scheduled to be the keynote speaker for the virtual program. Warnock is also the pastor of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta. Martin Luther King Jr. and his father were both pastors of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Brown said.
