Woman, dog rescued from Lexington house fire

A woman and her dog were rescued from a house fire on Johnson Avenue late Tuesday night, according to the Lexington Fire Department and media reports.

The fire on the 400 block of Johnson Avenue near the Lexington Traditional Magnet School was first reported just before midnight, per the fire department. When firefighters arrived, they found a fire on the second story of an apartment building.

The fire department said firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and limited the damage to just two units.

According to TV reports, a woman and a dog were rescued from the blaze The woman was transported to a hospital with what were described as non-life-threatening injuries while the dog was given oxygen on scene and is doing well now, the fire department said.

Investigators are working to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
