Updated: Man dies after being hit by car on Limestone

A man who was hit by a car on South Limestone in front of UK Chandler Hospital Monday morning has since died, according to the Fayette County Coroner.

Gary Weather, 62, was pronounced dead at 11:55 a.m. Monday by the coroner. His death was ruled an accident.

The accident occurred at roughly 6:30 a.m. Police said a man was crossing South Limestone outside of a crosswalk when he was hit by a car.

The man was taken to the hospital with what were described by police as life-threatening injuries. Police did not provide an update on the man’s status Monday afternoon.

The heavily-traveled road near the UK campus was shut down between Waller Avenue/Cooper Drive and Virginia Avenue while officers handled the scene. The road was reopened at 8:12 a.m., according to the Lexington Traffic Management Center.

Access to UK Hospital’s emergency room remained open despite the road closure, per the traffic center.
