A Fayette County constable died Sunday, according to city officials and a state constable association.

Kenneth Wayne Winburn, who served as constable for the second district, died “due to medical issues,” according to a Facebook post from the Kentucky Constables Association.

Winburn, a Democrat, was elected to serve as constable in 2018. In Fayette County, constables largely serve as process servers, serving civil summons and eviction notices.

Winburn had filed to run for re-election this year. Two other candidates have also filed — Jim McKenzie and Nickolas Hart. Both are Democrats and will face off in the May primary. McKenzie previously held the office.

Gorton has 45 days to appoint Winburn’s replacement, who will serve until the end of the year.
