Longtime Lexington weatherman T.G. Shuck returning: Here’s where, when to watch him
Longtime Lexington television weatherman T.G. Shuck is heading back to the Bluegrass.
Shuck announced the news on his social media Monday, saying that “since leaving the Lexington TV market back in 2012, I’ve been asked on social media and in person by hundreds of viewers the same burning question ... “When are you coming back to Lexington?” After 10 years, I can finally say ... that time is NOW!”
Shuck said he will be joining ABC 36 WTVQ as chief meteorologist for its 5, 5:30, 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts Monday through Friday, beginning immediately.
Shuck’s first broadcast will be April 18, according to general manager Chris Aldridge.
“T.G. is someone with deep roots in the Bluegrass. He’s been with viewers through every type of weather event, good and bad. Central Kentuckians trust him and we’re honored to have him,” Aldridge said in a news release release.
“We promised big changes and that’s exactly what we’re doing,” explained the station’s news director, Miranda Combs, in the release. Combs, who also worked for years with Shuck at WKYT-TV, joined the station in March.
Shuck is leaving WHAS-TV in Louisville, where he began working in 2016. In his post, Shuck said, “To the viewers in Louisville metro, Southern Indiana and throughout the WHAS-TV coverage area, my eternal thanks for your support and welcoming me into your homes the last few years. I fell in love with the Derby City and it will always be a special place!”
A native of Lexington, Shuck worked for years at WKYT-TV. In 2001 he became chief meteorologist there before leaving the station in 2012 to spend more time with his family.
Shuck is a four-time Emmy award winner and won ‘Best Weather Anchor ‘ from the Kentucky Associated Press five years in a row. Shuck was also the first Lexington TV meteorologist to earn the prestigious ‘Certified Broadcast Meteorologist’ certification when it was instituted back in 2005. T.G. will be the only chief meteorologist in Lexington to have this certification, according to the news release.
