An intersection that is part of a popular route between Nicholasville and Harrodsburg roads will be closed for much of the summer, Lexington city officials said Monday.

The intersection of Clays Mill Road, Rosemont Garden Road and Lane Allen will be closed starting Tuesday, May 31. It is not expected to reopen until Aug. 5.

The closure is necessary to relocate utilities at that intersection, city officials said.

Motorists should detour around the closure using Harrodsburg, Pasadena Drive, Southview Drive, Southland Drive and Lafayette Parkway.

The city delayed closing the intersection until schools were on summer break. Clays Mill Road has multiple schools in a short distance including Lexington Catholic High School, Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary School and Clays Mill Elementary School.

Once the work is complete, the left turn lane from Clays Mill Rd. onto Lane Allen will be reopened and four-way traffic through the intersection will resume.

The intersection of Clays Mill Road, Lane Allen and Rosemont Garden, a key connector between Nicholasville and Harrodsburg Roads, will close beginning May 31 and won’t reopen until Aug. 5.
