Lightning strike sparks house fire in Lexington’s Hamburg neighborhood

A lightning strike sparked a house fire in the Hamburg area of Lexington Thursday afternoon, according to the Lexington Fire Department.

Firefighters were dispatched to the 900 block of Deer Crossing Way at roughly 5:15 p.m. Thursday for a report of a structure fire, said Maj. Jessica Bowman with the fire department. Smoke coming from the second story of the house was visible upon arrival, and firefighters quickly extinguished the fire.

Bowman said the cause of the fire was a lightning strike. Occupants were home at the time of the incident but no injuries were reported, according to Bowman.
