Fire destroys a Lexington garage, causes minor home damage, officials say

A detached garage near a home in Lexington was destroyed by a fire Monday morning.

The Lexington Fire Department responded to the report of a garage fire in the 300 block of Bassett Avenue around 11:20 a.m. Monday. Maj. Jamie Tinsley said the 20-by-25 foot garage was fully involved in flames upon arrival.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly but not before it caused some minor damage to the home. Tinsley said the home is still livable but the garage is completely destroyed.

No one was injured, according to Tinsley.

Tinsley said they have an idea what started the fire and it’s likely it sparked accidentally. A full investigation into the cause of the fire was underway Monday afternoon.
