A nearly $2.4 million highway improvement project on Russell Cave Road is set to begin Wednesday and is expected to continue into the fall.

“The safety upgrades will include resurfacing, shouldering, improving curve alignment, new signage, enhanced striping, and drainage advancements,” the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said in a news release.

The work will go from the Interstate 75 overpass northeast to the Fayette-Bourbon county line and is expected to be completed by Oct. 31.

Lane closures on Russell Cave Road, or Ky. 353, may be in effect between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m.

One lane will stay open at all times, and flaggers will direct traffic when lane closures are in effect.

“Lane closures will be in effect at alternate times between milepoints 1.372 and 11.113,” the cabinet said. The cabinet said outbound lanes may be closed beginning at 8:30 a.m., and closures of inbound lanes may end at 3:30 p.m.

The project is part of the Highway Safety Improvement Program and is being completed by L-M Asphalt Partners, which is being paid $2,393,396, according to the news release.
