‘Pretty bad shape.’ Air conditioning outage causes issues at Fayette County Clerk’s Office
Some employees at the Fayette County Clerk’s Office are dealing with heat, as an air conditioning unit is broken and temperatures have risen over 80 degrees in some parts of the building.
County Clerk Don Blevins said the air conditioning unit on the second floor of the clerk’s office has been out for no more than a week or two and said the second floor was in “pretty bad shape.” It was 83 degrees in one of the rooms this morning, Blevins said.
Blevins said the air conditioning unit on the first floor is operating normally. It will likely be awhile before the second floor unit is fixed, Blevins said.
“I’m told that they’re not going to be able to get our new rooftop unit until the fall due to long lead times for that equipment, so we’re going to have to live like this for quite a while,” Blevins said.
To accommodate employees, Blevins said his office has added fans to the second floor and the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government has provided some portable air conditioning units. Blevins said the portable units are “barely keeping up” and LFUCG is in the process of purchasing and sending more units to help.
“We’ll continue to try to get portables and stuff like that,” Blevins said. “If it gets really bad, we’ll send them home.”
