Services, activities affected after water main break floods Lexington church
Significant flooding from a water main break has caused a Lexington church to alter its services and activities.
Rosemont Baptist Church, located at 556 Rosemont Garden near Clays Mill Road, said on Facebook its basement suffered significant flooding as a result of the break which happened early Monday morning. Power to the building was turned off and all activities and services for the week have been canceled.
A decision for Sunday morning’s service will be made later this week, the church said.
“Please pray that the damage will be as minimal as possible,” the church said in a Facebook post. “We will provide updates as they become available.”
The water main break happened early Monday and was attributed to natural causes, according to a spokesperson for Kentucky American Water.
Officials repaired the broken pipe before 6 p.m. Monday, over 12 hours after initial reports of the break came in. A spokesperson for Kentucky American Water said contractors will continue the water extraction process Tuesday.
In addition to the flooding at the church, nearby homes suffered damage, according to Maj. Jessica Bowman with the Lexington Fire Department.
One family was on vacation in florida when they discovered their home had suffered damage from the water pipe breaking, according to Herald-Leader reporting partner WKYT.
