Lexington’s Leestown Road reopens after 2 crashes in same area cause shutdown
Leestown Road near the Scott-Fayette County line has been reopened after two accidents occurred near each other and caused the road to be shut down, according to the Lexington Traffic Management Center and Lexington police.
Lt. Dan Truex with the Lexington Police Department said the accidents happened at 7:16 a.m. on Leestown Road between Browns Mill Road and the railroad overpass. There were two separate collisions at that location — one involving three vehicles and the other involving two — both caused by a tractor-trailer driving slowly under the railroad pass.
“As it did so, I guess (other cars) slammed on their brakes or attempted to brake,” Truex said.
One person was hurt in the three-vehicle accident and sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Truex said. Nobody was hurt in the two-vehicle collision.
Police shut down the road while they investigated and cleaned up the scene. The traffic management center said the road reopened just after 8:15 a.m.
