Updated: Coroner identifies motorcyclist killed in crash on New Circle Road

A 47-year-old Winchester man died in a crash on New Circle Road Wednesday afternoon, according to the Fayette County Coroner.

Larry Spicer died at the hospital around 3:15 p.m., the coroner’s office said.

Police shut down a section of New Circle Road while they investigated the incident, which happened around 1 p.m. on the inner loop between Bryan Avenue and Meadow Lane, according to the traffic management center.

Spicer was driving his motorcycle in the emergency lane trying to bypass traffic, police said. At the same time, a vehicle was pulling out of an adjacent parking lot and did not see the motorcycle, leading to the collision.

Spicer was not wearing a helmet, according to police.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested for charges unrelated to the crash, police said.

Police are investigating the crash site and will have the area shut down until further notice.
