More changes coming to Clays Mill Road area to address traffic problems around schools

The late August closure of a section of Clays Mill Road and many cross streets lead to a series of traffic back ups in the area around Lafayette High School, the School for the Creative and Performing Arts and Picadome Elementary.

City officials said one of those side streets that leads to the campus of Lafayette and SCAPA will re-open Tuesday.

McCubbing Drive, which had been closed, will re-open from Harrodsburg Road to Lafayette Parkway. Drivers will not be able to turn onto Clays Mill Road, city officials said.

The closure of Clays Mill Road between Lane Allen and Rosemont Garden and Harrodsburg Road was necessary to complete a years-long widening projects of Clays Mill, one of the south side’s busiest corridors. However, the closure of the road and side streets leading to Clays Mill created problems for neighbors in the area and parents taking kids to and from school.
