Woman, baby sent to hospital after driver runs red light and hits their car, police say

A woman and a small child were sent to a hospital Wednesday morning after a vehicle ran a red light and hit their car, according to Lexington police.

The accident happened at the intersection of Man o’ War Boulevard and Palumbo Drive at approximately 6:31 a.m., according to Lt. Joe Anderson with the Lexington Police Department. Anderson said a vehicle was traveling in the outbound lanes of Man o’ War when it ran a red light and struck another vehicle traveling north on Palumbo.

The car hit was occupied by a woman and a baby, according to Anderson. The woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was sent to a hospital. The baby also went to the hospital as a precaution.

A Lextran bus was also involved in the accident, as the struck vehicle was pushed to the bus’ side during the collision. Anderson said one passenger was onboard during the accident and they were not injured.

The driver of the vehicle that ran the red light was not injured either, according to Anderson. No citations were given, he said.

All inner loop lanes of Man o’ War Boulevard were shut down while first responders cleared the scene, according to the Lexington Traffic Management Center. A portion of Palumbo Drive was also closed to through traffic. The roads were reopened shortly after 7:30 a.m., according to the Lexington Traffic Management Center.
