Updated: Fayette County coroner identifies victim of a deadly crash in Lexington

One person has died after a one-vehicle crash in Lexington Thursday.

The accident happened just before 1:15 p.m. Thursday on Chinoe Road. The traffic management center said all lanes of Chinoe Road towards Richmond Road from Fontaine road were shutdown while police investigated and the roadway reopened at approximately 4:30 p.m.

A vehicle reportedly hit a tree, according to the traffic management center. Lt. Jeremiah Davis with the Lexington Police Department said the driver suffered life-threatening injuries and was sent to a hospital.

The driver later died at the hospital, according to the Fayette County Coroner’s Office. The coroner identified the driver as Stephen Herron, 74.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
