Popular Lexington trail detoured for two weeks to allow for construction on BCTC campus
A small section of the popular Legacy Trail will be closed for two weeks to allow construction of a new driveway for Bluegrass Community and Technical College on its Newtown Pike campus.
The city has planned a temporary detour on BCTC’s campus while the driveway is constructed from Freight Boulevard.
This will allow the approximately 200 feet of trail that is impacted to remain open from Newtown Pike to Setzer Way during the construction project.
Avid trail users were upset in the summer of 2021 when the city failed to give appropriate notice that a section of the Legacy Trail on Newtown Pike in front of the new Amazon facility would be closed due to construction. City officials pledged to make sure that during construction events, the trail will continue to remain open.
The Legacy Trail extends from downtown Lexington to the Kentucky Horse Park in Scott County. It has become a popular commuter route for those working downtown.
