2 hospitalized after car flips on I-75 in Lexington, police say
Lexington police are investigating an accident on the interstate that sent two people to the hospital Wednesday morning.
The crash happened shortly after 5 a.m. on I-75 southbound near the 111 mile marker, according to Lt. Daniel Burnett with the Lexington Police Department. It was a single-vehicle collision. The driver lost control of the vehicle before going off the road, Burnett said.
“Callers stated that the vehicle, which is a silver Toyota Corolla, was traveling at a high rate of speed,” Burnett said. “The vehicle flipped and struck a pole off the roadway.”
The vehicle was occupied with two people, both of whom were sent to the hospital. Burnett said police don’t know the extent of their injuries.
Police had the right lane of I-75 southbound blocked while they investigate. Burnett said he’s unsure how much longer it will be closed.
At one point Wednesday morning, police shut down the entire road to investigate. Traffic was diverted to I-64. The road was expected to fully reopen at 9:45 a.m., but remained partially closed after 10 a.m. It full reopened just after 2:30 p.m.
The collision reconstruction unit was called out to the scene, according to Burnett.
