Lexington traffic: Vehicle hydroplanes, causing collision on New Circle Road
A section of New Circle Road has been reopened after an injury collision briefly shut down part of the busy road Thursday morning, according to the Lexington Traffic Management Center and Lexington police.
The accident happened on the outer loop of New Circle Road between Meadow Lane and Bryan Station Road, according to the traffic management center. The accident was reported at 8:41 a.m. and caused the outer loop of New Circle Road to shut down in front of the fire station on that block.
Lt. Daniel Burnett with the Lexington Police Department said a vehicle was traveling on the inner loop of New Circle Road attempting to pass another vehicle when it hydroplaned. The vehicle crossed the center median and collided with another vehicle on the outer loop.
The driver of the vehicle that was hit had to be extricated from their can due to damage, according to Burnett. The driver suffered minor injuries but wasn’t transported to a hospital.
The driver of the other vehicle was uninjured. Burnett said the road was shut down for approximately 30 minutes.
