Residents temporarily displaced after Lexington duplex catches fire, officials say

A duplex in Lexington suffered damage Thursday evening from a fire, according to the Lexington Fire Department.

The fire happened in the 1200 block of Accord Drive. Maj. Jessica Bowman with the Lexington Fire Department said the fire was reported at 8:39 p.m. and when crews arrived they found smoke and flames coming from the back side of the residence.

The rear side suffered the most damage, according to Bowman. Heavy smoke got into the attic and caused smoke damage there as well, Bowman said. No smoke made it inside either residence.

The occupants of the duplex safely evacuated the residence before firefighters arrived. Bowman said they will be temporarily displaced.

The fire department is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
