Traffic update: Clays Mill Road now reopen to drivers, nearby street is permanently one-way
After months of construction, a key corridor in the Southland neighborhood of Lexington is now fully reopen to traffic, the city announced Tuesday.
The section of Clays Mill Road from Rosemont Garden to Harrodsburg Road is back open, the city said in a news release. The section of roadway was closed this summer while city workers made road improvements and replaced a stormwater culvert.
Aside from final clean up and other “to-do list items” expected to be completed in the spring, the Clays Mill Road Project is done, the city said in a news release. The 3.7 mile long project included road and sidewalk improvements like concrete and asphalt repairs, road markings and plantings.
As part of the project, Southbend Drive is permanently a one-way street from Lone Oak Drive to Clays Mill. Drivers traveling on Clays Mill Road from the direction of downtown will also now encounter a left turn only lane onto Reed Lane.
In August, the closure of Clays Mill Road and side streets leading to it created problems for neighbors in the area and parents taking kids to and from school.
