An intersection in Lexington was still closed Wednesday afternoon due to a water main break that occurred Monday, according to the Lexington Traffic Management Center.

The water main break happened at the intersection of Rosemont Garden and Southland Drive/Lafayette Parkway at around 9 p.m. Monday, according to Lt. Daniel Truex with the Lexington Police Department. Kentucky American Water was contacted for repairs.

A 16-inch water main broke, causing the intersection to be shut down, according to Susan Lancho with Kentucky American Water. It’s unknown what caused the water main break.

Lancho said Kentucky American Water crews are expected to work on repairs through Wednesday afternoon until roughly 5 p.m. Additional work will need to be done by Windstream to repair fiberoptic cables damaged by the break, Lancho said.

There’s no word on how long the entirety of the repairs will take or when the intersection will reopen.

At 4:45 p.m. Wednesday the traffic management center reported that the intersection will remain closed through at least Friday due to ongoing repairs.

No buildings suffered any damage due to the water main break, according to Lancho.

Another significant water main break occurred in the Rosemont Garden area last year. In July three homes suffered damage due to a water main break on Rosemont Garden near Clays Mill Road. A local church was also affected.
