Lexington police officer taken to hospital after being hit by vehicle on the interstate

A Lexington police officer was sent to a hospital Wednesday morning after being hit by a car on the interstate, police say.

The accident happened shortly after 10:30 a.m. near mile-marker 100 in the northbound lanes of I-75. Lt. Dan Truex with the Lexington Police Department said a safety officer was providing early warning for pothole repair when the officer was struck by a vehicle.

The officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Truex said. The driver of the vehicle involved in the accident also went to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Truex said no charges have been placed as of Wednesday afternoon. An investigation is ongoing.

Traffic is backed up in the area but lanes are open, according to Truex. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s traffic map shows heavy traffic around mile-marker 99, backing up to the Boonesborough Road exit.
