A stop for a quick bite of breakfast after work turned into a $50,000 payday for a Lexington man with a lucky scratch-off ticket this week.

According to a Thursday release from Kentucky Lottery, Garry Hill, of Lexington, swung into Clark’s Pump-N-Shop along Paris Pike in Georgetown Monday for gas and breakfast after his shift and purchased a scratch-off game.

The 500X scratch-off ticket proved to be a big winner as Hill first found a $200 win before moving on to the other spaces, according to the state lottery.

“I scratched the first row and figured I’d won at least $5,000,” he told officials.

Turns out the ticket had wins in all 35 spaces.

“I took it to the clerk to check and was told it was for more than they could pay, and I needed to go to Louisville,” Hill told lottery officials “I wasn’t able to eat breakfast after that.”

The Lexington man had time for a nap before heading to lottery headquarters in Louisville, where he got a check for $37,750 after taxes.

“It’s not life changing but it’s substantial,” he said.

The store will receive a $500 bonus for selling the ticket.
