A woman died and a man was seriously injured after a tree fell on their vehicle during high winds in Lexington Friday night.

The Fayette County coroner’s office said Erica Nichole Yeary, 41, of Lexington, died as a result of blunt force injuries to the head after a tree fell on the vehicle on the 1000 block of The Lane.

The coroner said Yeary was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:37 p.m.

Lexington police Lt. Paul Broyles said a man also sustained life-threatening injuries when the tree fell on him and the vehicle. Broyles said the man had gotten out to clear a branch in the road.

This was at least the fourth death in the storms that swept through the state Friday. Earlier, Gov. Andy Beshear tweeted that there had been 3 other deaths in the storms. He said there had been one death each in Simpson, Edmonson and Logan Counties.
