Fayette County school bus carrying dozens of middle school students involved in crash

A Fayette County Public Schools bus was involved in a crash Thursday morning, according to Lexington police.

The collision happened in the area of Russell Cave and New Circle roads shortly after 8:30 a.m., according to Lt. Daniel Truex with the Lexington Police Department. Truex said the bus was heading towards Winburn Middle School on Russell Cave Road when a van turned into the bus.

The bus was occupied by 40 Winburn Middle School students, one bus driver and one monitor, Truex said. Nobody involved in the crash was hurt.

Another bus picked up the students involved in the collision and they have been taken to school, according to Truex. Fayette County Public Schools classified the incident as a “minor accident” and also confirmed there were no injuries.

“There may be up to a 30-minute delay in their morning bus stop pick up time and arrival to school,” Fayette County Public Schools said in a statement.

All lanes of traffic on Russell Cave Road were open after the accident, although there were some backups in the area due to the collision, Truex said.
