The intersection of Greentree Road at Willowood Road will be closed starting Monday and will not reopen until mid-May as crews work to replace a sewer line in the area, Lexington city officials said this week.

The intersection will be closed through May 18 and will extend to Castleton Way.

Motorists are asked to use Centre Parkway and Appian Way as a detour.

The area has heavy traffic as Greentree Road is a primary route to the Tates Creek elementary, middle and high school campus.

The city is replacing more than 6,000 feet of sanitary sewer lines along Greentree, from Armstrong Mill to New Circle Road. The work is being done in sections and will take more than a year to complete.
