Apartment building in Lexington condemned after catching fire, officials say

Multiple people in Lexington will have to be relocated after an apartment building was condemned due to a fire Thursday, according to the fire department.

The fire happened in the 1800 block of Augusta Drive, said Maj. Derek Roberts with the Lexington Fire Department. It started in a condemned upstairs apartment on a two-story, eight-unit building.

After the fire was put out, code enforcement determined the entire building would have to be condemned, according to Roberts. Multiple people will have to be relocated.

It’s unknown why the whole building was condemned or how many people will be relocated. Code enforcement did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

No injuries were reported, according to Roberts.
