The oldest bar in Lexington will soon be able to say the Budweiser Clydesdales have visited them twice.

To kick off Chevy Chase Inn’s 90th anniversary celebration, the Budweiser Clydesdales parade up and down the 800 block of Euclid Avenue in Lexington starting at 5 p.m. May 31.

The bar, which is planning to have an anniversary celebration event each month for the rest of the year, is starting off strong with the famous horses known for the repeal of the prohibition of beer.

The Clydesdales will stop outside of the Chevy Chase Inn so that community members can take photos with the animals.

The event is family friendly and the Chevy Chase Inn encourages families to bring their kids.

The Clydesdales visited the Chevy Chase Inn for the first time in 1959 when they came to celebrate the significant amount of Budweisers sold at the bar, according to a news release.

“I was floored when Budweiser approached me about coming to Lexington to help Chevy Chase Inn celebrate our 90th Anniversary,” Kevin Heathcoat, co-owner of Chevy Chase Inn, said in the release. “This little neighborhood institution has so many stories to tell. If these walls could talk you might not want to listen, but this will be something we’ll talk about for the next 90 years.”

The Chevy Chase Inn, also known as CCI, is a popular dive bar in the city that was originally opened in 1932 as Prohibition was ending. The bar became famous for its many horse appearances inside the bar in the mid-2000s.

Reminiscent of the past with its smoke stained walls and classic drinks, the bar has remained dedicated to customers for nearly 90 years.
