‘Put a smile on everyone’s face.’ Lexington crash victim’s heart donated to person in need
A pedestrian who was struck by multiple vehicles crossing I-75 last week has died, according to the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.
Brent Lyons, 36, of Harrodsburg, died Tuesday at University of Kentucky Hospital after suffering multiple injuries in the incident which took place June 13.
His cousin, Maxie Hines, described him as a “loving and caring person who would do anything for anybody.”
“He loved his whole family and always tried to put a smile on everyone’s face,” she said via text message. She said he loved to cook, dance, swim, and watch horror movies with his siblings.
She told the Herald-Leader that Lyons was an organ donor, and his heart was able to be donated to a person in Texas.
“We are very excited about him being able to continue on in someone else’s life and help them,” Hines said.
Hines said Lyons struggled with his mental health. Hines said she didn’t think the incident was intentional, and said her cousin was “content with life.”
“Recently he started to have episodes again, and he doesn’t realize things and thinks he sees things,” she said. “He is not facing reality. He is not going to respond like a normal person.”
The family has a GoFundMe set up to help with funeral expenses with a goal of $5,000.
