Interstate in Lexington reopened after wreck sends driver to a hospital
A section of I-75 near the Fayette-Madison County line has reopened after a single-vehicle wreck early Tuesday morning that caused significant traffic issues, according to Lexington police.
The crash happened around 5 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the interstate at the Clays Ferry Bridge, according to Lt. Joe Anderson with the Lexington Police Department. The vehicle ended up on its side and the driver had to be extracted from the car.
The driver was sent to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Anderson said. The police department did ask its collision reconstruction and forensic services units to respond “while the driver’s condition was monitored, but ... they turned out not to be needed, which was a good thing,” Anderson said.
It’s common for the collision reconstruction unit and forensic services unit to investigate more severe crashes.
Officials had two lanes of the interstate shut down while they cleaned up the scene. Anderson said the interstate fully reopened at approximately 7 a.m.
A short while later there was a second collision on the ramp near the 110 mile marker of I-75. Two drivers were injured, but their injuries were non-life-threatening, according to Anderson. The road was expected to fully reopen shortly after the incident.
