Lexington traffic: Major road in Lexington reopened after serious crash

A major road in Lexington has been reopened after a serious crash, according to the Lexington Traffic Management Center.

The wreck happened just before noon on Richmond Road. Lt. Joe Anderson with the Lexington Police Department said a vehicle traveling outbound left the road and struck a tree in the center median.

The driver of the vehicle was transported to a hospital with serious injuries, according to Anderson. There was also a passenger in the vehicle who was transported to a hospital with minor injuries.

The crash was being investigated by the collision reconstruction unit, according to Anderson.

The outbound lanes of the road were shut down at Chinoe Road while police investigated the scene. At approximately 2:30 p.m. the traffic management center reported that the road had reopened.

Traffic maps showed a backup near the scene of the crash, with a warning to seek alternate routes.
