Officers find weapon inside the Lexington jail. Officials had tip about a gun
A weapon was found inside the Fayette County Detention Center Friday, according to Maj. Matt LeMonds from Lexington’s Community Corrections division.
Jail officials received information that a gun could be inside the detention center. LeMonds said staff immediately conducted a search and a corrections officer found a weapon.
The weapon was recovered without incident, according to LeMonds. An investigation into the incident was ongoing Friday.
“No further comment will be made at this time to protect the integrity of this process,” LeMonds said in an email.
