Fire causes damage at a Lexington apartment complex, officials say

A fire left behind damage at an apartment building in Lexington Wednesday morning.

The fire happened on Cambridge Drive in the Cardinal Valley neighborhood. The Lexington Fire Department said a neighbor spotted smoke coming from the building and reported it to the fire department.

The fire was sparked in a unit on the second floor, according to the fire department. Firefighters had to force their way into the apartment to extinguish the fire. That unit suffered damage, and the building’s ceiling was also damaged due to lingering smoke, according to the fire department.

No residents were present when the fire happened and no injuries were reported. Cambridge Drive was expected to be shut down for a couple hours while fire investigators check out the scene.
