A woman was killed after being hit by a train in Lexington Monday afternoon, according to the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.

The incident happened in the 4500 block of Iron Works Pike, according to the coroner’s office, where a railway bridge passes over the road near Interstate 75. The Lexington Police Department is investigating.

Sharon Jefferson, 58, was declared dead at the scene at 3:15 p.m., according to the coroner’s office. She died from multiple blunt force injuries. Her death is being labeled an accident, the coroner’s office said.

Police didn’t immediately release more information about the incident.
