Lexington motorcyclist suffers serious injuries after a crash on Richmond Road

A motorcyclist in Lexington was seriously injured after being involved in a single-vehicle wreck Thursday, according to the Lexington Police Department.

The crash happened at 11:32 a.m. on Richmond Road at the cross-street of Irvine Road, police said. Lt. Meredith Taylor said the motorcyclist hit a light pole.

The driver was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, Taylor said. Lt. Chris Van Brackel with the Lexington Police Department said a Lexington fire truck was in the area of the crash when it happened and firefighters were able to provide immediate first aid.

It’s unknown what caused the crash or if the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet when it happened.

The outbound side of Richmond Road was blocked off at Ashland Avenue while the Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the wreck. Officials cleared the scene shortly before 1:30 p.m.

The motorcyclist was riding a motocross-style motorcycle, police said. The incident also caused damage to the light pole.
