Fire at Lexington fast food restaurant forces closure, leaves extensive damage

A Lexington fast food restaurant was severely damaged by a fire Monday afternoon, according to the Lexington Fire Department.

The fire happened at the Rally’s in the 2900 block of Richmond Road. Maj. Derek Roberts with LFD said it happened around 4:47 p.m. and firefighters could see smoke and flames coming from the building when they first arrived.

The fire mostly damaged the back of the building in the kitchen area. Roberts said no injuries were reported. Extensive damage was still visible Tuesday morning, with windows boarded up and the restaurant taped off.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Tuesday morning, Roberts said. It’s unknown how long the restaurant will be closed.
