Updated: I-75 in Lexington reopens after crash involving 4 vehicles
A wreck with multiple vehicles involved was expected to cause long delays for morning commuters on I-75 in Lexington Wednesday morning, according to the Lexington Traffic Management Center.
The collision happened on I-75 northbound near mile-marker 99 around 6:29 a.m., according to Lt. Meredith Taylor with the Lexington Police Department. Four vehicles were involved in the collision and two people were sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
It’s unclear what caused the wreck.
Only the right lane was open as of 7 a.m., but Taylor said the road fully reopened at approximately 7:10 a.m.
“Motorists should use added caution while traffic flow returns to normal,” the traffic management center said in a tweet.
Traffic was significantly backed up into Madison County, the traffic management center said. “Long delays” are expected, starting in Madison County, the traffic management center said.
A state traffic map showed reported backups stretching from exit 95 in Madison County past exit 99 in Lexington early Wednesday morning. Those traffic issues persisted just before 9 a.m.
