Sidewalks will be built soon along Wilson Downing Road and Squires Road, two projects that were years in the making.

Wilson Downing, which connects Tates Creek Road and Nicholasville Road, has some sections with no sidewalks on either side. There will be a sidewalk on at least one side of the road from one end of Wilson Downing to the other once the project is complete, the city of Lexington announced in a news release Tuesday.

Squires Road will have a new sidewalk on the north side of the road from Richmond Road to Cove Lake Drive.

Contractors will start work Monday, and construction should be finished by the end of the year, according to the release.

Single lanes may be closed on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. while the construction is underway.

“Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times, with flaggers as needed,” the release stated. “Drivers are reminded to proceed cautiously through work areas.”

The sidewalks will improve pedestrian access and safety for the neighborhoods nearby, the release stated.
