Lexington dive team finds body of missing kayaker at Jacobson Park

A body was recovered Sunday at Jacobson Park’s reservoir, the site of a search and rescue operation after a kayaker was reported missing, according to officials with the Lexington Fire Department.

According to Maj. Derek Roberts with LFD, their department was called to the scene around 5:15 p.m. after witnesses saw a kayak overturn in the reservoir and the individual did not resurface. At 10 p.m. the body was recovered and the Fayette County Coroner’s Office was notified.

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office identified the kayaker as 28-year-old Nicholas Davis, of Lexington. Davis’ death was labeled as an accident by drowning.

The fire department’s Technical Rescue and Dive Team was on the scene, as well as officers with the Lexington Police Department.

The Herald-Leader’s news partners WYKT reported the park, located off Athens Boonesboro Road, is closed at this time.
